Doris Jean Crain, 92, widow of Lewis "L.J" Crain, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Born Jan. 30, 1924, in Sioux Falls, S.D., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Harriet Hanson. After graduating from high school, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone as an operator supervisor. During World War II, she met L.J. Crain of Versailles at the Sioux Falls Army Air Base. They were married on Nov. 13, 1945, in Sioux Falls. The couple and their only child moved seven times during L.J.'s career with Northern States Power Company. The couple retired in Woodford County. She was a Lutheran and an active member of every congregation she and her family joined as they moved from South Dakota to Minnesota to North Dakota. She was a member of Versailles Presbyterian Church. In 2005, she left Kentucky to live closer to her daughter in Sauk Rapids, Minn. Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Foster (Allen Foster); and a granddaughter, Becky Foster (Mark Heimermann). A graveside service will be held in Versailles Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14.
