Louise Poe Bates, 96, of Frankfort, widow of James Ralph Bates, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016. A native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Maggie Bailey Poe. She was retired from the State of Kentucky, working for the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System. She was a member of the Swallowfield Baptist Church as well as the Random Homemakers and the Garden Club of Frankfort. She was a skilled seamstress and an enthusiastic flower gardener, having knowledge of the plants and their history and benefits. Survivors include a daughter, Jan Bates Frazee, Tennessee; a son, Jim Bates, Florida; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A daughter, Linda Bates Sheets, a grandson, Landon Bates, and a sister, Anna Bessie Poe Wooldridge, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 8, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, Frankfort. Burial will follow in the Frankfort Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Roger Frazee, Sam Frazee, Jeff Sheets, Jordan Sherrow, Jamason Sherrow and Jeremy Wooldridge. Honorary bearers will be Louise Quarles, Jennifer House, Crystal Hollon, Scotty and Irene Sams, Flora Wilhoite and Debbie West. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
