Virgil A. Lunsford, 96, of Lawrenceburg, husband to Leoda Short Lunsford, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016. Born May 19, 1920 in Jackson County, Ky., Virgil was the son of the late Charlie D. and Maudie Templeton Lunsford. He worked as a farmer, mechanic, and as a contractor. He assisted in the building of the CastlePost in Versailles. His hobbies included coon hunting, reading the Bible, and visiting with friends. In addition to his wife of 76 years, he is survived by four children, Clyde Lunsford (Diane), Versailles, Ruby J. Brown, Richmond, Ruth Carter (Donnie), Lawrenceburg, and Ricky Lunsford (Nancy), Lawrenceburg; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosezella Spencer, Lexington; and a half-sister, Geneva Short, Virginia. Two sons, Kenneth and Harley Darrell Lunsford; two granddaughters, Beverly Delaney and Lynn Lewis; a sister, Opal Sims; a sister, Fairy Lunsford; and two brothers, Hansford and Jim Lunsford, are deceased. Services will be conducted at noon today, Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, by Pastor Don Carter. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Casket bearers will be Paul Lunsford, Kenneth Lunsford Jr., Mike Carter, Virgil Wesley Lunsford, Brian Lunsford, Bobby Coomer, John Coulter, and Jesse Gritton. Honorary bearers will be Jesse Short and Bennie Higgs.
