Helen Marie Garner, 84, of Versailles, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at her residence. Born in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Cora Hamilton Caldwell. She was retired from Kuhlman Electric. She was a graduate of Simmons High School and a member of the St. Matthew’s AME Church of Midway. Survivors include four daughters, Jacqueline Garner, Cora Pennie, and Rhonda Garner, all of Lexington, and Rhonda Raglin (Alex), Versailles; a stepdaughter, Charlene Webster, Dayton, Ohio; two sons, James Garner, Midway, and Kerry Garner, Lexington; a sister, Gracie Caldwell, Midway; two brothers, Cecil Caldwell and William Caldwell (Julia), both of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Chendra Attive, Nikaleigh Pennie, Brandon Garner, Carrie Garner, Sheree Garner, Byron Garner, Meshia Garner, Montoyia Silverbird, Paul Harrington, and Clayton Harrington; and 17 great-grandchildren. A son, Brent Garner, two sisters, Elizabeth Neal, Minnie Mulder, and three brothers, Harry Caldwell, Nathan Caldwell, and Aaron Caldwell, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Matthew’s AME Church of Midway by the Rev. Dr. Sheila Harris. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery. Casket bearers were Marcus Crawford, JaCorey Berry, Stephen Caldwell, Demeturis Pennie, Alfred Guy Jr., and Brandon Garner. Honorary bearers were James Hamilton, Larry Bush, Craig Buchanan, and Kent Raglin. Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew’s AME Church Building Fund.
