John “Jack” L. Smith, 88, widower of Helen Redmon Smith, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Baptist Healthcare in Lexington.

Born in Woodford County, he was a son of the late George Robert Smith Sr. and Nancy Thomas Smith Lippert. He was the owner of Jack Smith Plumbing. He had been a volunteer fireman for the Woodford County Fire Department.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (David Burkhart) Dornbrock and Jamie (Rick) Bourne, both of Versailles; two sisters, Joan Ethington and Judie S. Woolums; five grandchildren, Adrienne (Jeff) Collins, Brady (Tiffany) Bourne, Ty Dornbrock, all of Versailles; Nathan Darland and Blake Darland, both of Nicholasville; and six great-grandchildren, Tristan Ferrell, Dylan Bourne, Ian Ferrell, Maddie Bourne, Braxton Bourne and Harlie Collins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George R. “Bobby” Smith Jr. and Charles “Buffalo” Smith; and an infant sister, Mary Sue Smith.

Services were held Tuesday, May 8, at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home, by the Rev. Ronnie Hupp. Pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
