John William Johnson Sr., 79, husband of Mary Catherine Johnson, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, in Versailles. Born on Sept. 5, 1939, in Shelby County, he was the son of the late Edmond and Maggie Johnson. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Doretha (Kenneth) Turner, Waddy; and Sharon Chisley, Frankfort; three sons, John William Johnson Jr., Lexington; Kim (Tanya) Williams, California; and Christopher Scott Johnson; a brother, Bill Johnson, Bagdad; 13 grandchildren, Michael Williams Jr., Komeka Williams, Krysta Williams, Sara Williams, Regina Walker, Davielynn Chisley, Jessica Chisley, Kim Williams Jr., Keenan Williams, Alexa Katherine Johnson, Timothy Combs, Conchessa Davis, and Demetrius Hall, 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brigetti Combs; a son, Michael V. Williams Sr.; a grandson, Alex P. Williams; and several siblings.
Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 27, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Floyd Greene officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
