James Walker Noel, 86, of Versailles, formerly of Midway, widower of Marie Williams Noel, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at St Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Born on June 1, 1932, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Paul and Willa Childers Noel. He was a 1951 graduate of Midway High School where he played basketball and served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. He retired from Square D as a maintenance supervisor after 37 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla (Eddie) Noel Grubbs, Versailles; two sons, James “Jay” (Mary) Noel, Nicholasville; and Bryan Noel, Frankfort; six grandchildren, Ashley Greathouse, Grace Noel, Chelsea Noel, Alex Grubbs, Austin Grubbs and Emily Noel; and a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Greathouse. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Hager; and two brothers, Paul Noel, and Eugene Noel.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 22, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hadden officiating. Burial with military honors followed at at Midway Cemetery.
