Virginia “Mammy” McKinney Smith, 78, widow of John William “J.W.” Smith, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Born on March 1, 1941, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Annis and Irene Strivels McKinney. She was a member of Peaks Mill Baptist Church. Survivors include three children, Jonathan Smith, Midway; David (Barbara) Smith, Anthony, Florida; and Melinda (Bo) Lu Bailey, Frankfort; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Workman; and four brothers, Lee McKinney, James McKinney, Walter McKinney and John McKinney. Services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 15, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Deavon Eastmon, Dax Workman, Eric Workman, Joe Bailey, Bud McKinney, Blake Reid and Tristan Smith. Honorary pallbearers were John Mitchell and Hunter Workman. Interment followed in Midway Cemetery.
