Robert M. Zeigenfuse, age 73, of Versailles, beloved husband of 30 years to Mary Ann Rombold Zeigenfuse, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at his residence.
He was born on March 22, 1947, in Abington, Maine, and raised in Pennsylvania, the son of the late John August and Virginia Josephine Nicholson Zeigenfuse. A U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, Robert served as a medic for the 1st Armored Division stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He retired after 40 years of service as a lab supervisor for the LFUCG Waste Water Treatment System. Robert was a very active Revolutionary War re-enactment member of the 2nd North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Line, a lifetime member of Craig’s Creek Muzzle Loaders in Woodford County, and a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Robert was a woodworker and made Native American beading. Later on in life, Robert became a skilled historic model ship builder. He will be remembered as a true historian, Renaissance man, and “Yorkie” man.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Tamara (Okbazghi) Yohannes, Louisville; and Susan (Joseph) Karas, West Chester, Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, Keren Yohannes, Michael Karas, Anna Sechrist, Samuel Karas and Melissa Colvin; and stepbrother, Victor (Kay) Colvin, Georgetown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Zeigenfuse.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road. Burial with follow with military funeral honors in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. the same day, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.
