Mary Nell Rae Walker Humes, 92, entered into her Savior’s rest on
Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in Midway.
She was born Mary Nell Rae Walker in Flint, Michigan, the only child of
Ray Earl and Mary Elizabeth Walker. She grew up in Flint, Michigan and
returned there after graduating from the University of Michigan, where
she received her BA in Education.
Mary Nell had a full, varied and well-lived life. She had satisfying and
rewarding careers and roles as an educator early on, small business
owner, interior designer, and eventually as a successful realtor. She
had a commitment to volunteerism and her love for children’s theater
through her leadership as chairman of the Children’s Theater Board of
Winston-Salem, and active membership and service as an officer of the
Executive Board of the Winston-Salem Junior League.
Mary Nell was a successful realtor. She received many credentials,
honors and awards over her 35 years with Prudential Carolinas Realty,
later Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Carolinas Realty.
She was an active member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in
Winston-Salem, North Carolna, and most recently, Mosaic Church of
Versailles.
Mary Nell is survived by her three children, David (Judy) Humes,
Versailles, and their children, Baker Humes, Madison Humes, both of
Lexington; Adam (Steph and son Jack) Miller, Owensboro; and Justin
(Sarah, and children, Hagan, Rorke and Henry) Miller, Versailles; Tim B.
Humes, Clearwater Beach, Florida; and Amy Humes (Kevin) Offner, and their
son, David Offner, all of Charlottesville, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held later in North Carolina.
