James David Tuttle, 88, widow of Shirley Lucille Tuttle, died Friday,
July 9, 2021, at his home.
Born on June 24, 1933, in West Irvine, he was the son of the late Hubert
and Bertie Stamper Tuttle. He was a 1951 graduate of Versailles High
School. He received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University
of Kentucky, and a Master’s Degree in Divinity from Asbury College. He
began his teaching career at Versailles High School, and taught US
History, World Government and Spanish for many years for Woodford County
Public Schools. He also spent many years as a missionary and a teacher
in Bolivia and Costa Rica, where he also was an administrator in the
school system. He was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, David L. Tuttle and James A. Tuttle, both of
Versailles; a sister, Brenda (Joe) Barber, Louisville; a brother, Steve
(Lisa) Tuttle, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; a brother-in-law, Jerry Risk,
Carrolton; two grandchildren, Dawn (Chris) Marie Page, Versailles; and
Jonathan D. Tuttle, Key West, Florida; a step-grandson, Matthew Page,
Lexington; three great-grandchildren, Xavier B. Young, Anna Page and
Autumn Page; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his
wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Risk.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at
the Versailles United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2 p.m.
until the time of service.
