William “Bill” Scales, 90, husband of Elva Scales for 66 years, entered
heaven on Thursday, July 22, 2021.
He was born and raised in Pulaski County. After serving in the U.S.
Marine Corps, he fell in love with Elva at a basketball event. The two
were wed New Year’s Eve 1954. Bill was trained as a printer and worked
at that trade for his working career. He was a faithful follower of
Christ and loved singing in the church choir. He served as a deacon for
many years.
Bill had many interests and stayed busy with his gardens, yard, honey
bees, and woodworking. However, Bill’s pride and joy was his family.
Bill helped raise and grow three children, seven grandchildren, and was
a constant embracing presence in the lives of countless others. All
those loved and guided by Bill were greatly appreciative of his
patience, calm demeanor and strong moral code. Bill was a steady, quiet
man whose capacity for love and devotion was unrivaled. His beautiful
blue eyes, ready smile, and strong loving embraces will be sorely missed
by us all.
He is survived by his devoted wife Elva and children; daughter Linda
(Mike), son David and daughter Peggy. His grandchildren are Lynn
(Amber), Calebe (Lauren), Hank, Susie (Noah), Katy (Ryan), Mike and
Shelby. His great-grandchildren include Austin, Helen, William, Sophia,
Elan, Colt, McKenna and Avery.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 27, at Clark Legacy Center,
Frankfort. A gathering of family and friends followed the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners
Hospital for Children at www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org.
