Barbara Joanne “Jo” Mink, 90, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021.
Jo was born on May 4, 1931 to the late Robert and Victorine Schenk Merrell in Rochester, New York. She attended Indiana University and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. Jo was an accomplished weaver, a member and former board member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and a member of the Weavers Guild of America. She was a member of the Lexington Chapter of Hadassah. She enjoyed riding horses and competing in the Kentucky Bluegrass State Games.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Sal (Roger Burch) Mink, Tee (Robert) Fiero, Katy (Tom) Casper, Mur (Tom) Greathouse and Bess (Ron) Deering; grandchildren, Liberty (Zen) Herter, Justice (Matt) Konowe, Geoff (Maureen) Burch, Christian (Brittany) Fiero, Liz Fiero Hunter, Claira (Alex) Vogt, Tommy (Jessica) Greathouse, Joseph (Kim) Greathouse, Lauren Greathouse, Michael Greathouse, Maddye Mink, Rebecca (Daniel) Charles, Dawn (George) Fink, Airen Champion, John Phillip Deering and Sam Deering; brother, Bob Merrell; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dr. John R. Mink; son, James E. (Pat) Mink; and granddaughter, Julia Burch Cirks.
The family received friends at a Memorial Calling Sunday, Aug. 8, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road.
In honor of Jo Mink’s legacy and in lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Lexington Chapter of Hadassah or the Woodford County Humane Society.
