Lawrence Bowman Jr., 76, of Versailles, passed away Dec. 18, 2021, after a battle with pneumonia.

Larry was born on Aug. 2, 1945, to Lawrence Sr. and Lorine Bowman in Versailles. He worked for National Distillers, which was eventually sold to Jim Beam, where he retired after 35 years. During this time, Mr. Bowman concurrently served in the Kentucky National Guard for 22 years. In 1979, he married his wife of 42 years, Rhonda Mitchell Bowman.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of Versailles; his two sons, Jeff (Meta) Bowman of Versailles and Scott (Jennifer) Mitchell of Chesapeake, Virginia; his brother, Lonnie (Sally) Bowman; his sister, Agnes (Bobby) Rice, both of Versailles; and his late sister, Juanita (Cecil) Jones. His daughter, Lyndsey, passed too early at 16 years old in 1997. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter who will all miss his warm smile and big bear hugs.

Larry was a formidable man with a sweet and gentle spirit. He loved his family dearly and worked hard all his life to provide for them. As a member of New Hope Baptist in Versailles, he fed many hungry folks through the years as its resident Wednesday night cook. And now, no one in Heaven will go thirsty because he’s seeing to it that everyone has “summin’ cold to drink.”

Funeral services were held at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles, Dec. 28.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Lyndsey DeLaney Bowman Scholarship Fund, c/o New Hope Baptist Church, 3825 Tyrone Pike, Versailles, Ky. 40383.
