Robert Stuart Mims, 84, died Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born on Dec. 19, 1937, in Louisville, he was the son of the late George “Jake” S. and Grace Gibson Mims. He served in the United States Air Force. He attended the University of Kentucky. He began working in paving and excavating for Skilton Construction, where he worked on large scale projects including Commonwealth Football Stadium, widening of Nicholasville Road, and many other major projects. He then moved his family to Florida, where he was a building inspector for new 7-11 Stores. In 1984, he moved his family back to Kentucky, where he worked as an independent contractor before starting Woodford Landscaping in the late 1990s.
He is survived by two children, James (Susan) Mims, Venice, Florida; and Amy (Eric) Stephens, Versailles; two grandchildren, Thomas (Jessica) Mims, Evansville, Indiana; and Samantha Stephens, Versailles; and the mother of his children, Linda Tondreau, Versailles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Bridget Miller.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, May 5, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, by brother-in-law Joseph Castello. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 4 p.m.
