Daniel Ray Grider Sr., 73, widower of Rebecca Cox Grider, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born on Nov. 29, 1948, in Frankfort, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ruth Phillips Grider. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He worked for Hassloch Office Supply Company for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in Versailles. He coached recreational basketball and softball for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Angela (Joel) Dunmire; three grandchildren, Robert Robertson, Caitlin Reed and Eric Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, McKynlee Hemard, Landon Hemard and Hazel Walker. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Ray Grider Jr.; a grandson, Ryan Scott Reed; a sister, Mildred Grider Lewis; and a brother, Raymond Grider Jr.
Services with military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, by Pastor Scotty Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Dunmire, Scotty Murphy, Robert Robertson, John Munro and Larry Walker. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m.
