Betty Jean Lutes Ward, 86, widow of John R. Ward, died Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Windsor Gardens in Georgetown. Born on March 9, 1937, in Bourbon County, she was the daughter of the late Anderson Wallace and Mary Belle Lanham Lutes. She was a graduate of Bourbon County High School and attended the University of Kentucky. She was a former member of Broadway Christian Church in Lexington and a current member of the First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown. She was active in the 4-H clubs of both Scott and Bourbon counties. She and her husband ran the Hollon House in Georgetown. She was the proprietor of the Midway Sportsman Club. She is survived by three daughters, Connie Ward Galloway, Beaver Creek, Ohio; Linda Ward and Mitta Ward, both of Georgetown; a brother, Bobby Jack Lutes, Bourbon County; a sister, Phyllis Ann Lutes Crump, Bourbon County; five grandchildren, Brian Raether, Mary Guevara, Ben Wheeler, Rachel Wheeler and Tori-Riley Sutherland; four great-grandchildren, Brook Castillo, Talia Raether, Malcom Guevara and Kieran Raether; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Annette Ward; and five siblings, Clara Lutes Hurd, Juanita Lutes Brown, Mildred Faye Lutes VanHook, Kenneth Lutes and Beulah Lutes Cooke Foley. Services were conducted Saturday, July 29, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Midway Cemetery. Pallbearers were family members.
