Mr. Lee Harper, 85, died peacefully at Baptist Hospital after complications of cancer and a 15-year long valiant fight with Parkinson’s Disease. Through it all, he never lost his wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. After four years, he and his beloved wife of 42 years, Dee Cowles Harper, are back together again. He and Dee travelled extensively, including to Italy, England, Scotland, and many places in the US. Born to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Harper, Midway, he graduated from U-High high school and attended the University of Kentucky. At 21, he began marketing for WVLK radio. Prior to his retirement after 40 years, he and others purchased the station, which they later sold. He was a volunteer firefighter in Midway, was on the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Planning and Zoning Commission and served on the Medical Institutional Review Board at UK for 15 years. He was a member of the Lexington Club and the Frankfort Country Club for 30 years where he scored a hole-in-one twice, and where he made many life-long friends. As a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church for many years, he served as Deacon and Trustee of the Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Harper, his brother Alex (Fielden) cousins Bill Harper (Knowles), Steven Harper (Laura), John Harper and three and nieces and three nephews. Services will be held at Pisgah Presbyterian Church, 710 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, on Monday, August 28, 11:00 a.m. with a reception following at the church academy building on site.
