George Wendell Combs, 82, of Versailles, passed away peacefully

Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Baptist Health Lexington after a short

illness. Born April 18, 1941, in Hazard, Ky. to the late George W. and

Aileen Engle Combs. He was a former funeral director and embalmer at

Engle Funeral Home in Hazard, Ky. A former Secretary of Tourism for the

state of Kentucky, Commissioner Department of Fiscal Management, an

Executive Director for the Office of General Counsel Transportation

Department and the current owner of Combs Wilbert Burial Vault Company

in Versailles. He was a loving and loyal husband, father and friend and

is survived by his wife Lois of 61 years; three daughters, Wendy (Jim)

Birch of Versailles, Rickie (Jamey) Gay of Danville, Ky., Karla (Robby)

Calvert of Scottsville, Ky.; grandchildren are Jameson (Katie) Gay,

Jordan (Meredith) Gay, Jodi (Adam) Borg, Allison, James and Bryan Birch,

Maggie, Sam and Charlie Calvert; eight great grandchildren; a special

family friend, Kendall Cosby; a very special niece, Traci (Richard)

Rickert; goddaughter, Jennifer Watts Bell of Marietta, Ga.; exchange

student granddaughters, Jutta Nagel of Germany and Nea Makela of

Finland. He was preceded in death by a sister Wilberta Deaton.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24th, 2023, at Kerr

Brothers – Harrodsburg Road. A private burial will be in the Lexington
