Jack Bailey Whitaker, 92, of Versailles, Ky. died on Feb. 16, 2024, at Baptist Health Lexington. Jack was born in Versailles, Ky. on March 17, 1931, to the late Margaret Dozier and Chester E. Wilson.
Jack earned a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky in physical education and health. He was a teacher and basketball coach for seven years, retired from State Auto, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and was a member of American Legion Post #67, Versailles Baptist Church, Blue Grass Claims Association and was a former charter member of Woodford Hills Country Club.
He is survived by his son, John B. Whitaker (Terri), Versailles; stepson, James W. Whitaker (Jennifer), Versailles; sister, Brenda Wilson, Versailles; and grandson, Matthew Whitaker, Versailles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Shane Wilson.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Visitation started at 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial followed in Versailles Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rick Davis, Chad Egbert, Tommy Vanderpool, Johnny Merriman, Tom Plogsted and JP Gibson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. William Childers, Dianna Baker, Lisa Stearns, Malcom Endicott, Robert McCall and Jill Wozniak.
