In the “From Our Files – 10 Years Ago” weekly feature published on August 1, 2024, we incorrectly identified the recipient of the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award given in August 2014 at the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion. The winner was in fact Woodford County’s own Gary Jones, co-owner of Versailles Brewery Company and councilmember of the Versailles City Council. Gary was recognized in 2014 for his dedication and service to the community through volunteerism with the Woodford County Soup Kitchen, the Woodford County Food Pantry, Hope Ministries Food Pantry and Mentors and Meals. Lisa Johnson, the director of Mentors and Meals, was on hand at the Governor’s mansion for the presentation. Not only do we regret this error, but we applaud Gary’s continued selfless work in general to our county, in particular to hunger-related charities, and always on-hand at the many festivals and community events held in Versailles.
