In a story about the Jan. 7, 2025, Versailles City Council elects Chantel Bingham to complete member vacancy,” published in the Jan. 16, 2025, edition of The Woodford Sun, the Sun incorrectly reported that Versailles Presbyterian Church would be participating in the roof-line lighting project and would be paying the cost for it. This was in error.
At the meeting, Mayor Laura Dake said only the Versailles Baptist Church planned to participate in the project and that it would pay for the lights and installation. There was no discussion about Versailles Presbyterian Church paying the cost for the lights and installation.
In a subsequent email to the Sun, Dake and Versailles Public Works Director Bart Miller, Lois Gaines, clerk of session at Versailles Presbyterian Church, made the correction: «At this time, (Versailles Presbyterian›s) governing board has not been asked nor have we agreed to ‹handle the cost ourselves.› Our session approved the installation of roofline lights at its meeting in March 2023. At that time, we understood there would be no cost to the church for participating in the project, but details needed to be finalized. In a telephone conversation with Brian Traugott several months later, I affirmed that our church very much wanted to participate, and (Mayor Traugott) expressed his appreciation. We continue to want to participate in the project and look forward to hearing more details from the city.»
Later in the discussion of the roof-line lighting project, Miller said, consistent with all of the other building owners who already have the lights on their buildings, any building owner who has yet to get lights will be paying for the monthly electric cost, which Dake said is nominal.
Though Ms. Gains advised a correction was unnecessary, the Sun believes it is important to correct the record. The Sun apologize for the error.
