The Woodford County Middle School track and field team recently
celebrated a conference championship and has its eyes on the state meet
June 5 in Louisville. The Tigers have had a season to remember, with
numerous school records falling this season.
WCMS Coach Adam Swingle said he’s enjoyed the season with his team and
is proud of his squad’s work ethic.
“Coaching this team has been a pure joy,” said Swingle. “Each athlete
gives their best every single day. Our success this season has been a
total team effort. Our philosophy is simple, Work hard — and then have
fun. This team finds a way to do both every day.”
Payton Asher (15.96) is the school record holder in the girls’ 100-meter
hurdles and is ranked second for 100-meter hurdles, third in the triple
jump and fourth in 300-meter hurdles.
Macy Stickel is the record holder in the girls’ 400-meter run (1:02.88)
and is ranked third in the girls 800-meter run.
Addison Moore is the school record holder in the 800-meter run
(2:27.80), 1600-meter run (5:16.47) and 3200-meter run (11:31.38) and is
ranked first in the state.
Leland Taylor set the school record for the boys’ 100-meter dash (11.62)
and is ranked third in the state for 100 and 200-meter dash.
Nolan Asher is the school record holder in the boys’ 400-meter dash
(54.06) and is ranked first in the state for 400-meters and second in
the boys’ high jump.
Ryan Hendrix broke the record for the boys’ 800-meter dash (2:11.26) and
is ranked fifth in the state. Hendrix also broke the school 1600-meter
run record (4:53.08), where he is ranked fourth in the state. Hendrix
completed the record hat trick by shattering the school record in the
3200-meter run (11:03.17).
The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team of Asher, Jed Padgett, Chase Thurman,
Taylor is ranked fifth in the state and broke the school record (49.68).
The quartet is ranked fifth in the state in the 4×200 relay and broke
the school record the boys’ 4×200 (1:39.36).
Hendrix, Asher, Wyatt Crowe and Thurman are ranked first in Kentucky in
the 4×400 relay and shattered the school mark (3:53.19).
Other notable rankings
Chase Thurman is ranked first in the turbo-javelin and is in the top 10
for the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Chaz Stout is ranked third in the
pole vault, and Braxton Brock is ninth in the triple jump. The WCMS
girls’ 4×400 relay team is ranked second in the state, and the 4×200
relay team is fifth. Olivia Dabney is eighth for shot put and sixth in
discus.
