William Melvin Smith, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022. Born on Aug. 25, 1937, in Lexington, he was the son of the late David and Sylvia Plowman Smith. He worked in the Department of Physiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and was a former basketball and baseball coach for Woodford County Parks and Recreation. He is survived by two sons, Billy (Leslie) Smith and Jerry Flora, both of Lawrenceburg; and a brother, Ronald Smith, Versailles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marie Johnson Smith. Services were held Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill Avenue. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Lexington. Pallbearers were Todd Edmondson, Buddy Flora, Daniel Flora, Jim Jarman and Larry Thompson.
