Gladys Louise Slugantz Sutherland, 98, wife of James Edward Sutherland of Versailles, died Sept. 2, 2026, at her home. Gladys was born in Woodford County, Kentucky, to the late John and Laura Hamm Slugantz.
Gladys is survived by her husband of almost 79 years, James Sutherland; son, Larry Sutherland (Connie); sister, Clara Lewis; grandchildren, Brian Sutherland, Jamie Sutherland (Shawn), Angela Sutherland, Aaron Sutherland (Jessica), Whitley Sutherland Burkhardt (Brady) and Leslie Maynard; and great-grandchildren, Sidney Lucas (Landon), Zachary Sutherland, Hunter Sutherland, Sam Sutherland, Hallee Sutherland, Autumn Sutherland, Brantley Burkhardt, Levi Burkhardt and Peyton Burkhardt.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her son, James “Sam” Edward Sutherland, and her siblings, Joe Slugantz, Johnny Slugatz, Tommy Slugantz, Kenneth Slugantz, Donald Slugantz, Betsy Montgomery, Myrtle Carl, Nellie Holland, Mary Britton, Lana Drury, Jeanette Littrell, Kitty Carl, Lilly Phillips, Florence Rice, Lora Bell Rice and Emily Mildred Slugantz.
Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m., following the visitation. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Brian Sutherland, Aaron Sutherland, Jamie Sutherland, Zachary Sutherland, Sam Sutherland and Hunter Sutherland.
Honorary pallbearers were Jai Lewis, Steve Slugantz, Rita Ramage, Brady Burkhardt, Angela Sutherland, Whitley Burkhardt, Leslie Maynard, Sidney Lucas, Hallee Sutherland, Autumn Sutherland, Brantley Burkhardt, Levi Burkhardt and Peyton Burkhardt.
