Walter David Sowder, 81, husband of Kathern Sowder, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020.
Born on April 4, 1939, in Rockcastle County, he was the son of the late Earl Bryan and Edna Murrell Sowder. He retired from the maintenance department of Johnson Controls in Georgetown after 38 years of employment.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Sowder, Versailles; a son, Wayne (Rhonda) Sowder, Versailles; two sisters, Inice Sebree, Florida; and Kathy (Peter) Hawley, Versailles; a brother, Benny Sowder, Versailles; two sister-in-laws, Sue Sowder, Broadhead; and Marie Sowder, Georgetown; four grandchildren, Holly Hance, Versailles; Amanda (Terry) Yates, Gravel Switch; Wes (Angela) Sowder, Lawrenceburg; and Allisa (Jason) Thompson, Lexington; and five great-grandchildren, Briar, Eli, Emmett, Owen and Hadley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest Sowder, Owen J. (Pauline) Sowder, Barney Sowder and Roy Sowder.
A private service was held Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Interment followed in Rose Crest Cemetery.
